Use the Amplicare Flu Vaccination Report this year
Flu season is just around the corner, and with COVID-19 affecting the health of communities, protecting patients with vaccinations has never been more important. Starting August 1st, the Amplicare flu vaccination report will once again be available to pharmacies using Amplicare Restore.
The flu vaccination report identifies opportunities for pharmacists to offer flu vaccinations to patients. It also provides personalized communication materials to make outreach easy. If you’re a current customer, here’s a refresher on how to use the report at your pharmacy.
The flu shot is important this year, and concerns grow about the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic continuing through flu season. Last month, the CDC updated its guidance to encourage healthcare providers to continue administering routine vaccinations, including the flu shot. Immunization rates dropped earlier this year due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting social distancing rules.
According to the guidance, providers should take advantage of every opportunity to administer the flu vaccine, particularly to essential workers, those at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19, and those at high risks of flu complications. The latter groups include individuals who are 65 or older, nursing home residents, and people with underlying medical conditions, among others.
Many pharmacies are already anticipating a spike in demand for flu vaccines this fall and are preparing accordingly. According to a recent poll of 4,428 U.S. adults, 60% say they plan to get a flu shot this year. If you’re in an area with a high number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, be sure to check out the CDC’s guidelines for administering vaccines during the pandemic.
